We’ll make sure your vote gets presented to the World Heritage Committee before they cast theirs in June.

WHO IS...

UNESCO

UNESCO is a United Nations agency for education, science and culture. Its purpose is to protect our World Heritage – the places with “outstanding universal value.” The Great Barrier Reef is one of these places.

The World Heritage Committee

The World Heritage Committee was created by UNESCO, and it votes on what becomes World Heritage listed, and what does not.

YOUNESCO

YouNesco is a new initiative created by WWF to make sure that you, the people of the world, are heard when UNESCO makes big decisions.

It works like this. By voting you become a YouNesco ambassador. Then when UNESCO vote on big decisions, you do too.

We package up your votes and present them to the UNESCO ambassadors before they cast theirs.

They get to hear from people all over the world before they vote. You get a say in what happens to your world, and the decisions that are normally made behind closed doors.

The Great Barrier Reef needs you.

SOCIAL MEDIA STORM

On 16 June, join millions around the world tweeting and posting using #FightfortheReef, creating a global Social Media Storm that the World Heritage Committee and Australian Government can’t ignore.

shadow

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has cast its vote in Doha – and has made the right decision for the Great Barrier Reef!

It has put the Australian Government firmly on notice: take stronger action to protect the Great Barrier Reef – or risk it being listed 'in danger'. Through YouNesco, more than a quarter of a million people from 160 countries sent a clear message to UNESCO: protect our Reef. You were heard.
